5/20/18 Hyde Park, home of FDR was better then expected in many ways. We arrived in time for the tour of his home. This is a family home in which 3 generations lived. It was built with lovely stone from the area and had beautiful furnishings downstairs; the bedrooms were not especially elegant, in my opinion. FDR loved the view of the Hudson; he was also a conservationists and planted hundreds of trees on the property. Many of these trees are full grown now and block the view of the river, unfortunately. The grounds are spacious but no roses yet in the Rose Garden bordering his and Eleanor's grave sites. We spent most of our time in the library and museum. His model ship collection, of which we saw only a part, is out of this world. They also had his car, paintings and more furniture, as well as his desk and items on top from the Oval Office. . However, the exhibits which walked viewers thru his life and times attracted us most--so much detail and interesting. I understand why the museum ticket is for two days allowing next day. I am not sure you would see it all in two days. Good day; highly recommend if you are ever in this area.

Back to Miss Daisy for some maintenance work tonight.
